Ahhh the first true newsletter of a Normal Girl In NYC. Thank you for subscribing to read my ramblings, thoughts, and musings.
Today I will be sharing some thoughts that I had from this week like my love for well-dressed elderly New Yorkers, my friend’s Nancy Meyers Spotify Playlist, and some things I will be purchasing with Spring just around the corner.
My brain tends to have a million tabs open, so hopefully, me writing about a few will free up some of my mental space and take up some digital space.
I.
To begin, my friend Kelsey texted me a few days ago about an elderly gentleman she saw on the train ride home. Donning a vintage Burberry coat, a beret, and entranced with paper, he looked like the perfect candidate to befriend. I have always been one of those people who loved having friends that were older… maybe not 50 years older, but I do see the value of wisdom that can be bestowed by someone who has multiple years on me. So, this gentleman unknowingly sparked a conversation within our friend’s group chat about having adoptive New York city grandparents. I can only imagine the stories a lifelong New Yorker must-have, and the tips and tricks they can share on navigating the city.
Be nice to old people! They know more than you do!
II.
Nancy Meyers’ creative stylings take up a good portion of my daily thoughts. From Father of the Bride (1 and 2,) The Parent Trap, and It’s Complicated I am consistently designing my future home based on her interiors, hoping a young Dennis Quaid will sweep me away, and planning a dance party where Another Day, L-O-V-E, and At Last are on repeat.
My dear friend Hannah Rose curated an excellent playlist where you will feel like you have been cast as the next love interest in an upcoming Meyers film in Maine.
Listen along while perusing through some images that give me those inexpressibly happy feelings that only a Nancy Meyers film and soundtrack can.
III.
Spring is approaching, and everywhere else but NYC, it might have already arrived. It was 70 last Sunday and snowed the following Wednesday, so, we are definitely in the transitional phase of the seasons, and I am the worst at dressing for it.
In the hope that Spring will commit to our relationship, I have purchased and saved some items in my cart that will hopefully encourage her cosmic decision.
One of the brands that I am currently obsessed with is not new but has experienced a resurgence and rebranding in the past year and a half: J.Crew. Their new spring collection has so many cute dresses that will have you acting like the main character in no time at all. Offering classic striped lightweight sweaters and fisherman sandals, I will be looking like I live in Amalfi by April.
Along with J.Crew, Everlane, Gap, Shopbop, and Anthropologie have wonderful Springtime samplings that will have you pining even more for sun and fresh blooms.
Loved the first one!!!!!!! Will be reading every week :)))))
